Barbara Lee O'Bryan was born on January 20, 1937 in St. Joseph, MO to RIchard and Gladys (Strobel) O'Bryan. Their family moved to Sioux City where she attended Heelan Catholic Schools and Briar Cliff College. Barb worked for two years as a first grade teacher at Blessed Sacrament in Sioux City. She was united in marriage to Paul Joseph Sitzmann on August 8, 1959 in Sioux City, Iowa. They made their home on a farm in Plymouth County; Barb loved raising her family while living on the farm. She was a long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church - Neptune, where she was also a member of the Catholic Daughters.
Barb liked to play solitaire, do word search puzzles, and watch the Hallmark Channel. In her younger years, she enjoyed watching girls fast pitch softball. Her family meant the world to her; she loved to travel to visit family and the first 'good-bye' on a phone call with her was merely a suggestion, the conversation was not quite over with.
Barb is survived by her husband of nearly 67 years, Paul; 12 children: Todd (Lisa) Sitzmann, Terri (Russ) Holzman, Lynn (Dan) Dull, Annette (Jody) Vlotho, Mitch (Annette) Sitzmann, Kim (Todd) Pick, Kyle (Lisa) Sitzmann, Bill (Valerie) Sitzmann, Betty (Larry) Harms, Gary (Nikki) Sitzmann, Corey (Becky) Sitzmann, and Eric (Kelly) Sitzmann; 37 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; sisters in law: Alyce Reuter and Rita Sitzmann; and other extended relatives.
Barbara is preceded in death by two sons: PJ Sitzmann (1976) and Russell Dean Sitzmann (1970); parents, Richard and Gladys O'Bryan; brother, Richard (Mary) O'Bryan; and several brothers and sisters in law.
