Heaven gained a special angel on September 19th when Barbara A. Smith completed her work in this life and moved on to bigger and better things after suffering from an illness for several months. Barbara was born on May 20, 1941 to the late Stella and Ray Bilinksi. She graduated from Allentown High School and Georgian Court College with a degree in biology. She lived in Trenton, Allentown, and West Windsor for many years before settling in New Egypt in 1992. Barbara first worked as a biologist for Johnson and Johnson before switching gears and becoming a social work supervisor at Mercer County Board of Social Services, where she worked for many years prior to her retirement.
Barbara is survived by her loving daughter, Jennifer B. Smith, of Danbury Connecticut. She also leaves behind her beloved cats Cooper, Callie, Tucker, and Dino, as well as special caregiver and honorary family member Leanne Lincoln.
Barbara loved animals and was well known for feeding all of the neighborhood strays that somehow always managed to find their way to her home. She loved to sing and dance and enjoyed spending time at the beach and taking trips to explore new places. She also loved gardening, a trait which lives on in her daughter. Barbara will be missed for many reasons including her wicked sense of humor and “never met a stranger” approach to life. The family asks that you take a moment to extend a special act of kindness to someone today in her honor.
Calling hours will be from 5-8pm on Tuesday, September 24 at Peppler Funeral Home, 114 So Main St. Allentown.
