She Bound a Family
The glue that held the family together, that's how relatives talk about Barbara Walsh. Her son-in-law, Paul Landstrom, said that Ms. Walsh, 59, was planning to have everyone over to the house in Staten Island on Tuesday to discuss a family vacation. "She was talking with her husband at 8:30 about what she was going to make for dinner for us that night," Mr. Landstrom said of his mother-in-law, an administrative assistant at Marsh & McClennan. Making dinner for everyone was a pleasure, not a chore — she loved to cook. A finnicky eater, Mr. Landstrom said that he had once mentioned, casually, that he liked a green-bean casserole his mother-in-law made. "Well, there wasn't a Thanksgiving for the next 10 years that there wasn't string-bean casserole on the table." Once, when his wife was a child, Mr. Landstrom said, Ms. Walsh fell through the ice of a neighborhood pond, nicknamed the Unknown, trying to get her daughter Jennifer off of it. There had been no real danger, Mr. Landtrom said. It was simply an unacceptable situation. "All she thought was, 'Get the kid out of the Unknown.' "

It's been ten years today since you were taken from our family. The family misses you so much and you are so missed. Jimmy did so good you would have been proud. I know you sat on his shoulder the entire time giving him the strength and will to that job in your memory and in the memory of all the others that have been taken to soon. You will always be alive in our hearts.
