Barbara Whitfield

Barbara Whitfield was born on October 30, 1951, and passed away on February 4, 2025. She was a deeply loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose life was defined by care for her family, kindness toward others, and steady faith. Barbara loved poetry, writing, and reading, and she treasured art and the beauty it brings into everyday life. She could talk about poets and painters with genuine joy. For relaxing reading, she enjoyed Amish fiction. Her favorite activity may have been seeing her grandson grow and learn. She always welcomed his stories and silliness. She also loved the music of the British Invasion, a soundtrack that stayed with her through the years. She had a tender heart for animals and took joy in caring for them, always noticing and making room for the small, living things that needed gentleness. Barbara was a proud cum laude graduate of Birmingham-Southern College, a milestone she carried with quiet confidence throughout her life. She held a lifelong love of the beach, rooted in childhood trips with her late parents, Manley Whitley and Sue Whitley, and her siblings, Linda, Roy, and Keith. ~Those memories remained bright and treasured. Barbara believed heaven is a place of complete peace and restoration, where nothing is missing, joy is complete, and love is made whole again. She married the love of her life, John Whitfield, on December 20, 1975, and they shared over 50 years of marriage devoted to family and home. She is survived by her husband, John Whitfield; her children, Shannon Whitfield and Anne Whitfield; her grandson, Noah; her sister, Linda Wallace; her brothers, Keith Whitley and Roy Whitley (wife Marian); and her nephews Steve Strickland, Brian Wallace, Richard Wallace, Nicholas Whitley, and Ryan Whitley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Manley Whitley and Sue Whitley; her brother-in-law, Terry Wallace (husband of Linda Wallace); her sister-in-law, Shirley Strickland; her brother-in-law, Bill Strickland; her nephew, Billy Strickland; and her brother-in-law, J.D. Whitfield. Graveside services will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026 beginning at 2:00PM at Sulphur Springs Cemetery.
