Barry Barnard Obituary

Barry Allen Barnard
1962-2015
Barry Allen Barnard, age 52, was surrounded by his devoted family when he went home to his Lord and Savior on January 21, 2015.
He is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Jeanna Barnard and children, Laken Hartman (age 24) and husband Paul, Fisher Barnard (age 11) and Claire Barnard (age 9), and grandson Carter (age 2). Also by parents, Doris Cooney and Don and Roxanne Barnard, sister, Donnie and husband David. Additionally by wife's parents, Joe Bob Williams and wife Marla, Darlene Hutchison and husband Jim and Charles Garza and wife Sharon, brother-in-law, Clay Williams and grandparents, Maurice and Marian Williams. Finally, by his children's best friends, Kaleb Harmon and Emma Newby whom he loved like his own, and special friends Kris and Marcy Cowan and their children, Parker and Channy.
Barry was born April 9, 1962, in Pasadena, Texas where he was one of the first babies born at the new Bayshore Medical Center. He grew up in Deer Park loving fishing at Toledo Bend and Galveston Bay, hunting of all kinds, camping, diving, motorcycles, water sports and family time. Barry graduated from Deer Park High School while also working as a plumber at Modern Plumbing. He went on to earn his license as a Master Plumber in 1982, becoming one of the youngest in Texas to earn this achievement. Barry joined Shell Oil Company at the Deer Park Refinery in 1989 and celebrated his 26th anniversary this month. During his service, he has worked in most areas of the refinery in both Operations and Maintenance as a pipefitter.
When not working, Barry devoted 100% of his time to his wife and children; teaching them outdoor skills; helping them with homework; attending every sports and school event; and cooking dinner for his family almost every day. He was known in his circle of friends as a great cook who according to Marcy "never disappoints." Barry loved to travel with his wife taking her to most parts of the United States as well as rafting and waterfall repelling in Costa Rica, touring Australia and diving in the Great Barrier Reef and celebrating her 40th birthday with a gondola ride in Venice. One of his favorite parts of travel was experiencing local foods, especially off the beaten path.
Barry was happiest when he was taking care of and spending time with his wife and children. His favorite place was his Toledo Bend lake house where he enjoyed fishing, outdoor sports and relaxation on the swing overlooking the lake. He also especially enjoyed his deer lease in Tilden where he spent time with his children and special friends.
Barry was a man who wore many hats: father, husband, son, friend, and neighbor. Many people were touched by his life. God gave Barry a healthy desire to work long and hard and he used his gift to help others.
There has never been a better example of a devoted husband and father and true gentleman. His final act of service to others was the donation of his corneas and eyes so that others can see.
The family wishes to thank special members of the Maintenance Crew at Shell Deer Park Refinery for their friendship and support of Barry. Also, his special neighbor, Kay Raley, for her friendship and daily humor. Additionally, the physicians at Memorial Hermann Medical Center who tried valiantly to save his life and his two nurses on the Critical Care Unit, Carlo and Lowie, who gave special care to Barry and supported his family constantly for three days while they made difficult decisions. Finally, members of the Child Life Department who worked to help his children work through this personal tragedy.
A celebration of Barry's life will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2015, at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3900 N. Main St., Baytown, TX 77521, at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Dr. Jim Gill officiating. Faith Presbyterian Church will host a reception for the family following the service in the Fellowship Hall. Barry's family expresses its thankfulness to his church family and pastor for their loving support during these difficult days.
Navarre Funeral Home is caring for Barry during his cremation. He asked that his ashes be distributed at his favorite fishing spots. Remembrances can be delivered to the funeral home or in lieu of this, the family asks that you make a donation to The Galveston Bay Foundation, 17330 Highway 3, Webster, TX 77598, www.galvbay.org in his memory.

"May our brother Barry Barnard rest in total peace. I had the honor to had worked with Barry since his very 1st day at Shell operating the old Dubbs #9 Thermal Cracking Unit. He was my Primary Operator, while i was only the Secondary Operator of that old dinosaur unit. We spent many graveyards & evenings working all sorts of Overtime and then later on we moved on to the Coker where we worked large amounts of Overtime since day one of that Coker Unit. But working alongside with Barry made our jobs more adventurous & gratifying when treated by his mystical mouthwatering awesome cooking way out of this world! We're missing you buddy...I'll see you in the next heaven my brother that I had the privilege of sharing personal, lifestyle, drama & safe work practices along with all that healthy eating from all his acquired fishing &/or hunting trips. :) Always your friend, Jose "RainMan" Ramos, Jr. from Eagle Pass, Tx. All my condolences on my part to your immediate family & friends. I will always keep you in my Prayers mi buen amigo Barry Barnard R.I.P. :)

It's been a few days so I think I can talk about this now. Barry was like a son and best friend rolled in to one great guy. As Jeanna's dad, I always had to screen her potential suitors. I showed most of them my guns but not Barry. I knew he was the right one. We fished together in fresh and saltwater. I could take him on Toledo Bend but he always beat me in saltwater. Our favoriete thing was buying "secret" lures the other did not have. We deer hunted together both in hill country and south texas. Fisher and Claire had the best daddy ever. The church wouldn't even hold all the friends and family that showed up for his service. We will miss him forever. We'll fish together again someday and I'll have a new secret bait. Joe Bob Williams

Barry was a great friend - in fact, my best friend growing up on N. Kaufman in Deer Park. We also worked together for many years at Modern Plumbing. Barry was an awesome fisherman, a great hunter - and just a great guy, in general. Barry will be missed dearly - but we know that he is in a far better place. My heart-felt sympathy, love and prayers go out to his family. We are trusting God to strengthen you all - during this difficult time.

To Barry's family,
Such courage and unselfishness is what I
witnessed during the 2 days I took care of
Barry from his family members, friends and Barry himself. I saw Barry's character in each and everyone of you.

'Tis same strength from your loved ones will sustain you in the coming days. As no words seem to ease your pain in this grieving moment and the days to come. But Barry's passing I know is not in vain. For up to his death he help others live. May this ease your pain even for a moment.

To jeanna and barry's children I know he is proud of you as you are of him.

May he rest in peace.
My sincerest condolence from my family.
