Not sure what to say?

I am the man I am today because of Mr. G. From the age of 15 to about 31 I saw him almost every week as he counseled me through both tough and exuberant times.

Thank you for being my mentor, my friend.

When I was seven the family went to visit my grandparents and uncle in Barrington. Barry took me out for a ride in the sailing dinghy that was tied up on the river behind the house. In that brief trip he instilled in me a love of sailing that continues to this day.

My Uncle Barry was a very outgoing and unforgettable individual. This was brought home to me when I was looking at colleges in the summer of 1968. Barry took me for a drive to visit and interview at Amherst College. At...

I have known Barry for close to 30 years since I was running around the greens of Wannamoisett as a young kid. At that time, he ran the Wannamoisett Junior Golf Program. He saw me grow up from the "itch" (as he called me) that always bugged him to put me in the big kids foursomes, through my highschool golf career, to a married father with two children.
Barry was a selfless individual as many have mentioned. He was always one to make sure that I had a way to get to tournaments and he...

I remember caddying for a gentleman who was playing with Barry at the R.I. country club.
Barry drove the first green. I was speachless and seeing my face he smiled at me and that told me so much about him.
When myself or my friends hit a great drive starting off low and climbing we would remark: Wow what a great Barry Gately style drive.
To this day I have never seen a drive as good as his even in the Pro's.
I often wondered what became of him and after reading all that...

Barry,
In my lifetime, I have never met a more selfless individual than you. Your dedication to the Wannamoisett Junior, the US Challenge Cup and GDA were unrivaled. You have touched the lives of so many people. My family and I have an abundance of special times & memories we shared with you. We consider you family. Our trips with the Challenge Cup to Torrey Pines & Doral will be forever remembered. I hope you are teeing it up with Sr., TBF, and MM in heaven. You will be greatly missed.

Barry Gately was my " Big Brother " from 1966 to 1970. He'd pick me up every weekend and spend the time with me. I was 14 to 16 years old. He'll be sadly missed.
