At 83 years of age, Dr. Barry F. Sachs completed a life filled with adventure and purpose -- to learn, teach, help, comfort and inspire. He was a pediatric surgeon by trade and an insatiable learner by nature. He never turned down an invitation to attend theater or sign up for a course or...

Not sure what to say?

Carol, I think of you often, every time I go by your house. Rich and I were so sorry, that we didn't get to see you before you moved. We want you to know, that we wish you happiness in your new home. Be well and know that you are missed. Kate Niedel

I have worked in the operating room for more than 50 years, starting way back when at Baystate Medical Center. Dr. Sachs was without a doubt my favorite person to work with. I have so many wonderful memories.

I recently came to learn of Dr.Sachs demise, as I came across Dr. Courtney's obituary. He was a wonderful man who was exceptional at his craft. I had Leukemia and was treated under the watchful eyes of Jack Kelleher, which found me in this exceptional doctors operating table. A great teacher, I even spent a month in their office as a resident learning so much, even in the OR. He was not only thorough, but he was kind and soft spoken, having such a calming...

Dear Carol and all your family,
We are so sorry to hear this about Barry
and want to express our heartfelt sympathy to you. How we loved our talks with him, when walking in the neighborhood. Our mutual love and admiration of Siberian Huskies and Malamutes was often a topic of conversation, as you know. It was a pleasure seeing you and Barry coming around the corner with the dogs, then getting to visit with the two of you. We have missed you and now realize why. Our positive thoughts...

I have just learned that this brilliant man has passed. Dr. Sachs was a man that mere words can do no justice. He was an amazing humble man, who gave of himself to so many.

He was not only a skilled surgeon, but a calm presence that was soothing to his patients and their families. They loved him.

I worked on the Pediatric floor of Springfield Hospital, now Baystate Medical Center for more that 20 years, and Dr. Sachs would often single me out to make rounds with him. He...
