Lifelong Longview resident Bartley Devlin Stanley, 26, passed away April 25, 2010, at home.

He was born Dec. 2, 1983, in Longview, to Lori Rose and Rick Stanley, and attended Longview schools.

Bart was a member of the Blue Clan of the Cherokee Tribe. He was proud of his Native American Heritage and learned the culture from his late grandma, Clara Stanley, also known as "Rustling Leaves". She gave Bart the native name "Gentle Bear".

He worked for his family as a commercial fisherman in Alaska for several years. Recently, he enjoyed learning construction while building his dad's beach house. He had a need for speed while enjoying snowboarding, dirt bikes and quad riding. Bart loved hanging with friends and family, adopting new family members along the way.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Rick and Debbie Stanley of Longview; his mother, Lori Rose of Longview; his grandma, June Rose of Longview; two brothers, Scott Stanley and Chris Moon (Kim Morrison), both of Longview; a sister, Kelsey Lee McWhorter of La Center, Wash.; two nieces, Sinea Stanley and Amber Rolfe; and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park & Crematory.

Contributions may be made in Bart Stanley's name to Cowlitz County Juvenile Dept./Youth & Family Link, 1725 1st Ave. Longview, WA 98632.
