Basil W. Strough, 89, Anderson, passed away April 5, 2005 at Rawlins House after a brief illness.

He was born January 10, 1916 in Henry County, the son of Estes and Gladys (Hewit) Strough. He lived most of his life in Anderson.

He worked as a plumber and handyman in the Markleville area for more than 20 years. In 1968, he retired from Delco Remy, Plant 3, after 30 years of employment.

He was a member of Mt. Gillum United Methodist Church, Markleville Order of Eastern Star, UAW – CIO local 662, Anderson Lions Club and Lions Club in Arkansas. He was a 50-year member and past Master at Markleville Masonic Lodge and a WWII Army Veteran.

He is survived by his son, Robert (wife, Carol) Strough of Anderson; two daughters, Evelyn (husband, Joe) Crews of GA and Sharon (husband, Dick) Noel of Arkansas; grandchildren, Barbara (husband, Robert) Vanderwagen, Kimberly (husband, Scott) Wingo, Beverly (husband, Bob) Burns, Darrell (wife, Coleen) Noel, David (wife, Amy) Noel, Bill Noel, Dani Noel, Joy (husband, Tom) Price, Scott (wife, Amy) Jones and Brian Jones; step grandson, Scott Miller; great-grandchildren, Renee Vanderwagen, Bill Vanderwagen, Meghan Burns, Moira Burns, Catie Wingo, Jake Wingo, Dylan Jones, Cory Jones, Riley Noel, Derrick Noel, Curtis Noel and Cassie Noel; great-great-grandson, Zalend; brothers, Lloyd (wife, Samantha) Strough of Lapel, Clinton (wife, Martina) Strough of NC and Merrill (wife, Jean) Strough of Fortville; and sister, Jenny Mitchell of Fortville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Marie Strough; sister, Ogle Weed; and brother, Oliver Strough.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home with the Rev. Susan Poynter officiating. Burial will be in Mechanicsburg Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 266.

Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A Masonic Service will be conducted at 7 p.m. by the Markleville Masonic Lodge.

Bob and Carol, sorry that I couldn't make it up. I know how much you did for him, no matter how hard you had worked or what was going on at home. You have my deepest sympathy. The coffee pot is always on if you feel the need to come to the country. You both are very special people.
