Beatrice Welch Obituary

Welch
Beatrice Welch, M.D. On Thanksgiving night our beloved friend and relative, Beatrice Welch, slipped from time into eternity to celebrate her first Thanksgiving in heaven. Her earthly pilgrimage began on Nov. 9, 1926, in Yazoo City, MS. She was the eighth and last child of Ruby and Will Welch. The family moved to Houston where later she graduated with honors from San Jacinto High School and received her Bachelor of Science from University of Houston...also with honors. Then she was one of five women to receive a medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in 1953, and once again this was with honors.
Her education culminated in a second internship in Internal Medicine from University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Afterwards she served on the staff of the Texas State Mental Health Hospital in Austin where she received a certification in psychiatry.
Finally in 1959 she began to practice medicine in Bellaire then in Alief General Hospital (chief of staff) and finally in West Houston Medical Center (again as chief of staff for a period) from which she retired at age 80.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Welch was well traveled and a devotee of professional sports. She could often be seen enjoying the Houston Astros and other sports and theatrical events. She never passed a slot machine without making a contribution, and she thoroughly enjoyed telling or hearing a good joke.
A graveside service will be held at Forest Park Lawndale at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 1.
Her Celebration of Life will be held at Forest Park Westheimer, 12800 Westheimer, on Wednesday, December 1, at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to be made to the Jabboury Foundation for Cancer Research, 12121 Richmond Avenue, Suite 100, Houston, TX 77082, 281-558-1171 or www.jabboury.org.

Doctor B was my doctor for many years and took care of my mother in her nursing home. I have never had a doctor that could cause mare to her. She truly cared and we all cared for her too. I'll never forget her.

Had lunches many days in the Cafe West, of West Houston Medical Center. From days at Alief General Hospital to years at HCA West Houston Medical Center, Beatrice Welch, MD was one of us. I love her to this day. She was compassionate, loving and brilliant. Learned a lot from this gifted, intelligent, healer, and friend. Will miss her genuine ways and laughter.

Dr. Welch was a gem of a person--so intelligent and caring. She made everyone around her feel special and important. She was always able to laugh with others and at herself. Anyone who knew her will miss her immensely. May all of her family and friends find comfort. She will be missed dearly.

I knew Dr. Welch since 1970 at Alief General Hospital and then we continued our relationship at West Houston Medical Center. In all that time ,she was always loved by everyone that knew her. One always could count on her smile when passing in the hall. She had so many patients that were with her almost throughout her practice. She was a wonderful leader and a great doctor! She always kept her cool in an emergency so the team would also remain calm. I and everyone that knew her loved her. She will live forever in the warmest part of my heart. Blessings and comfort to you,her family. She was a lovely blessing and demonstrated a Christlike life. She will be sadly missed by us all.

Dr. Welch was a wonderful dr. She took care of my grandmother, Nancy Walton, for 20+ years. She was always so compassionate to by grandmother's well being. My grandmother passed away in 1994 at the age of 97. I have to to give Dr. Welch the credit for the long life she lived. May god bless The Welch family and she is now with the angels.

Dr. Welch was a wonderful doctor. She was a family friend and my doctor for many years... she saw me through colds & allergies, pierced my ears when she knew someone at a slumber party would do it with an ice pick.......saw me through a lot of my firsts....I remember family gatherings and homemade ice cream at her house....and much more, she was a wonderful woman...she will be missed...Madalene Bow
