Our heartfelt condolences to the family, especially Judy, on the loss of Mr. Byrd. I only met him once, but I’ve heard many stories of his days in the Fire Service. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I remember Ben from the days when he was at Station 27 in Roebuck. I remember him as a true professional. The thing that always impressed me about him was that ALL of his co-workers looked up to and admired him, what more can you say about someone than he was respected and admired by his peers. We will miss him.

Ben was a great man. I will miss seeing him, coming and getting a cup of coffee, at the fire station. Even though he was retired from the department, he would always come by and visit, when he had a chance. The world is a lesser place with him gone.

My thoughts and prayers are with Ben's family. He was always thought very highly of in the Fire Service and EMS, it was a true pleasure to have known and worked with Ben at the Birmingham Fire Department.
