Ben Davis Obituary

Ben Hunsaker Davis
1927 ~ 2012
Salt Lake City, UT-Ben Hunsaker Davis, 85, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2012. He was born February 16, 1927 in Ogden, Utah to Monida Emily Hunsaker and John Ira Davis. He married Elaine Adamson on September 17, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple. Elaine died January 11, 1981. Her parents were Lloyd B. Adamson and Opal Wadley. Ben married Carol Joyce Kennedy on March 3, 1983 in the Salt Lake Temple. Her parents were David M. Kennedy and Lenora Bingham. Ben attended Ogden High School and graduated from Utah State University with a B.A. degree. He was a sales representative for Westinghouse, worked at the U of U Clinic for head, neck and oral cancer, co-owner of Farr Jewelry Inc. with his brother Julian I. Davis. He retired from Weber State University where he was Assistant to the Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences. He fulfilled and LDS mission from 1946-1948 in the Northern States headquarters in Chicago, Illinois. Ben served in the bishopric of his ward, was the Ward Clerk, Assistant Executive Secretary, Financial Clerk and in the High Priest group leadership. Ben loved and served the Lord and always tried to be the kind of person he should be. He said "please", "thank you" and "if you don't mind" to everyone around him to the end. He spoke kind and loving words to his wife each and every day. He was always a wise and loving father. Ben was honest and not given to pretense. A sense of humor was his trademark. The hunt for antiques with an eye for potential beauty kept him busy. He was particular and liked things to work right including the 1966 Ford Mustangs he collected and restored. Ben battled bravely and survived about 20 years of health challenges with determination and a strong will to live. He was an example to all of enduring to the end. Without complaining he forged ahead and took the next step. Ben is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Steve (Luana) Davis, Shauna Kong, Cheryl (Mike) Cotro-Manes, Lisa Schooter; stepchildren Kathy (Ray) Fuentes, John (Judith) Whittle, Jim (Choon) Whittle, Nancy (Mark) Myers, Christine (Roger) Moffat; 21 grandchildren as well as his brothers Jack J. Davis, Julian I. (Rebecca) Davis and his sister Carol Lynne Paul.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday September 25, 2012 at 1pm in the Olympus Hills Ward Chapel (4176 Adonis Drive, SLC, Utah). Dear Ben and Carol's Family,
As their housekeeper for years, I can share with you that Ben's affection, admiration, and love for Carol was real and constant. Carol's amazing dedication and tireless caretaking allowed for Ben to keep his pride and his light shining. Both kept their humor even when the inevitable crept closer. Ben would want to know that his Carol is being looked after. I imagine, that for Ben, She was the hardest thing to let go. I wish your entire family peace and thank you for sharing Ben with me. I will miss him tremendously.
Love, Laura

Dear Carol,

We're sorry to learn of Ben's passing. He was a very proud man who dealt well with his of health challenges. Ben was a good father to the children he took in. It can't have been very easy to support them at times, but he was determined to stick by them. And that is true love of a father.
