Thankfully I have the method to apologize for not attending Bena's unveiling. I could offer many different excuses but the truth is that at 77 I need to write things down or I forget! Of course I did not write down the date and time of the unveiling and thus failed to attend. For this I will always be sorry. Bena deserved better from me and I failed her. I am so sorry to all the living for my failure.

In 1969 I was shopping in Cendy's the Ehrlich's store in Coral Gables Fl as my new wife (now 56 years) had a very difficult foot to fit. Bena's husband Maurice saw me pulling shoes from the many stacks of shoes that were in the store. Going to Cendy's became almost a weekly ritual for us as my wife had never seen such a section of shoes that fit her and at such an affordable price. We got to know the Ehrlich's. Maurice was the finest salesman I have ever met and Bena was the kindest and most friendly shop owner that I have ever met. Finally one day Maurice (The Boss) asked if I would like to work on Saturday and Monday nights. I thought about it for a minute and said yes. I worked for them for one and half years during which time I learned how to be a great salesmen from Maurice and witnessed how to be a good person from Bena. They offered me a position when I was a senior at the U of Miami as a manager in a store on the West Coast of Florida. I was very honored that they felt I could do a good job for them. As it turned out this was the only job I have ever had other than the paving company that I opened up and ran for 53 years with offices all over the US. During that 53 years, In the early years of my business I was told by many that I was the best salesman that they had ever met. I can not tell you how many times I told someone that the best salesmen was Maurice the Boss Ehrlich who was supported by his lovely and very kind wife Bena. Bena rest in peace and I hope that you will be reunited with The Boss!
