CANCELMO, Benjamin G. Benjamin G. Cancelmo, Sr., 75, of Hartford, beloved husband of the late Fortunata "Fritzie" (Viola) Cancelmo, died Saturday, (May 15, 2004) at Jefferson House, Newington. He was born in Hartford, son of the late Donato and Antoinette (DeBeneditis) Cancelmo and was a lifelong resident. Prior to his retirement, Ben was a Space Laboratory Technician for Hamilton Standard where he worked for 38 years. He was a Graduate of Hartford High School, Class of 1946, and a graduate of the University of Hartford, Ward School of Electronics. He was an avid Crossword Puzzle Solver and an avid golfer. He worked as a Golf Ambassador at Goodwin Park Golf Course where he participated in a number of Golf Leagues among them The Goodwin Park Men's League and the Hamilton Standard League. He was a communicant of St. Luke's Church and a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He is survived by his son, Benjamin G. Cancelmo, Jr. and his wife Alana of Hartford, three daughters; Diane Johnson of Novi, MI; Benita "Bonnie" Denisiewicz and her husband Stan of Glastonbury, and Mary Jane Sousa and her fiancee Richard Lopa of Wethersfield, 12 grandchildren, Michael and Jason Denisiewicz, Kathryn, Rebecca and Amy Johnson, Anthony, Matthew and Jennifer Sousa, Celina, Benjamin, III, Nicholas and Vincent Cancelmo. He also leaves a brother George Cancelmo and his wife Sophie of East Hartford, three sisters; Antoinette Swokla and her husband Walter of East Hartford, Yolanda Papi of Lynn, MA and Marie Simonelli and her husband Guy of Rocky Hill, two sisters-in-law; Sylvia Cancelmo of Farmington and Rose Cancelmo of Simsbury and many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers and a sister, Joseph and Daniel Cancelmo and Helen Surri. The funeral will be Thursday, May 20 9:15 a.m. from The Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Tpke., Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. in St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church, 285 Church St., Hartford. Entombment will be in Mt. St. Benedict Mausoleum with military honors. Friends may call Wednesday, May 19 5-8 p.m. at Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home.
