"Whether he knew them or not, he would give his shirt off his back for anyone," said his brother, Chris Hoeffner. "He was a one-of-a-kind person." Hoeffner, 21, of Wheat Ridge, Colo., died Oct. 25 while choking to death on food in Ali Al Salem, Kuwait. He was assigned to Aurora. Hoeffner joined the Army in 2003 when he was 19. He had hoped to one day become a police officer, his brother said. He was an Army Reserve soldier and psychological operations specialist, assigned to the 324th Psychological Operations Company. Hoeffner said his brother had just spent two weeks in Wheat Ride hanging out with family and friends and just enjoying their company. "We had a lot of family dinners," he said. "If he could get away with it he would just go to a coffee shop and hang out." He also is survived by his parents, Irene and Rene. "His life was based off of family and friends and making sure everyone around him was happy," said Hoeffner's brother.
