Read MoreBen was an Ohio State champion swimmer in 1954 in the 200 Freestyle and in1955, in the 150 yd. Individual Medlay. He was team captain in '55 when the Blue Streaks brought home the 2nd place trophy. Furthermore he was fantastic leader and nice guy. He also played the drums!

Bennie and I were on the Sandusky High School swimming team together in the mid-1950s. Coach Caldwell was said to have named Bennie as the best swimmer he ever coached. He was a tremendous teammate that could swim every stroke and was the OHSAA state champion in the 150 yd. individual Medley in 1955. He and I swam on the 150 yd. Medley Relay during that season. He was a humble and very kind person; we all admired him. RIP Bennie.
