Not sure what to say?

I have only recently heard the sad news. During his time at Devonport School, I came to know Ben. He had such a great smile and a warm heart. So sorry at the loss of your lovely boy.

The two Bens (McNae and Goldson) were staying in a camp site near our boat and a guy came up to them and said: "Hey are you a musician?" (to McNae) and "what are you, a boxer?" (to Goldson). I helpfully said McNae looked like Bob Dylan and both the Bens looked at me bemused: "He wouldn't have known who Dylan was, he means the guy from One Direction!". (the handsome one apparently). Lovely boy, just figuring out (hard) what he wanted to do in life, what he thought about profound and lesser...

Isabelle,
So sorry to hear of your loss. Please know that you and your family will be kept in my prayers. As one who has also suffered a recent bereavement, about all you can hope to do at this time is to put one foot in front of the other. Gambatte kudasai.

Dear Helen, Kerry, Sam, Isabelle and Eva, we are very sorry for your tragic loss and our thoughts are with you.

I met Ben on the Spirit of NZ - the trip wouldn't have been the same without you dude. We became inseparable after that, you brought me so much happiness and love for that period. When we lost contact I put it down to the fact that it annoyed me this kid was more intelligent than I, i'll deeply miss our debates. I was fortunate enough to give you one last hug a few weeks before your passing. You were a unique individual with a heart of gold. Our memories I will treasure forever. My deepest...

I will never forget the grin on Ben's face whenever he came to visit to ask if I wanted to go outside and kick the ball. It gave me a great deal of pleasure to have a run around with Ben and I always enjoyed his company.

R.I.P. Ben.

With my deepest sympathy for the McNae family.
