I sing because I'm happy
I sing because I'm free
His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches me.
Mr. Spellman is resting peacefully.
Prayers to the Spellman Family & friends.

God Bless Benny and bring peace to the family. Benny was my friend, he rode the trolley downtown (when we had trolleys)and he rode nearly every day and we talked about his years of blues singing and performing. He was a good man and a good friend the short time I knew him and I visited him in the nursing home several times. He always greeted me with a smile and a handshake.I will always remember Benny.

It can be so hard to face the first year without your loved one, but the love of family and friends can carry you through.

I grew up in New Orleans Gentilly Woods 9th Ward and Benny Spellman performed at the Mardi Gras Bowling lane/Lounge in the 60's on Congress Drive. My boyhood home is gone due to Katrina just as Mr Spellman is gone but he will never be forgotten. He was a great artist.
