Paul Funeral Home of Washington Obituary

Bennie A. Moore passed away August 19, 2024.

Bennie A. Moore was born December 10, 1932, in the Gardner Creek Community of Martin County to Dennis and Bertha Moore.  He was preceded in death by the love of his life Mary Alice Moore in April of 2022.  Surviving are daughters Jo Ayers and Mariann McQueen (Eldred).  Grandson Russ Ayers (Tracey), great grandson Thomas Ayers (Rachel), great granddaughters Tayler (Keith) and Kenley (Jeremy) and the most very special great great granddaughter Hayden who brought great joy to Daddy Bennie.

Bennie married Mary Alice in June 1952 and went into the Army in 1953.  After training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma he spent his military time in Germany.  After returning home from the Korean War, Bennie worked many jobs including hauling fertilizer and tobacco.  In the 50’s Bennie started farming and in 1974 started Bennie A Moore Septic Tank Service.  He farmed until 1997 and continued working in the family business until his last breath.

During his lifetime Bennie enjoyed many activities with his children and grandchildren including horses, motorcycles, squirrel hunting and vacations at the beach.  Bennie and Mary Alice really enjoyed live gospel and country music in venues like the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, The Scope in Norfolk, and many other venues from Green Acres to Myrtle Beach.

Bennie was a self-taught man who believed in education.  He taught himself how to use a computer and how to do his own accounting.  He read and studied all the time, learning how to fix any problems that popped up in everyday life.

Services will be at the Moore Family Cemetery Thursday August 22, 2024 at 10am.  The cemetery address is 4294 Hwy. 17, Williamston, NC and is next to the family home. Visitation will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to Bear Grass Fire Department, 6005 Bear Grass Road, Williamston, NC 27892.

Not sure what to say?

I had used Mr. Moore's service. Besides all the other lovely things said about him, he was energetic. I have memories of him running to his truck, and jumping in. Always on the move. My condolences to his family.
