Benny Edward Womble, 80, of Thornton, died Saturday, September 8, 2007 at the Golden Living Center in Hot Springs. He was born May 22, 1927 in Thornton, Arkansas a son of Raymey Womble and Lois McManus Womble Thornton. He was a retired Navy World War II veteran and was also retired Post Master of Thornton and Fordyce Post Offices. He was elected in 1973 at the state convention as Post Master of the Year. He was past President of the Rotary Club, Treasurer of Federal Employees and Assistant Fire Chief of the Thornton Fire Department. Mr. Womble was a long time member of the Thornton United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for over 30 years and Sunday School Teacher for over 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Martiel Clark Womble of Thornton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Clark Edward and Karen Womble of Birmingham, AL, Benjamin Thomas and Stephanie Womble of Pensacola, FL; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca Ann and Buddy Richardson of Wake Village, TX, Demaris Nan and Mark Elkins of Little Rock; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Womble of Nashville, TN, Laura Womble of Birmingham, AL, Katie Richardson of Weatherford, TX, Trey Richardson and his wife, Jana of Conway, Aaron Womble of Knoxville, TN, Jeremy Womble of Pensacola, FL and Christopher Elkins of Little Rock. Memorials may be made to the Thornton United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Monday 6pm until 8pm at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce with Rev. Andy Hughes and Rev. Hammett Evans officiating. Burial at Oakland Cemetery.
