Bernadette S. "Bernie" Gallagher (née Eichner), 98 of Sheffield Lake, passed away peacefully May 24, 2018 in Avon Oaks Nursing Home, Avon.
She was born August 28, 1919 in Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania to the late August and Magdalena Eichner (née Farbacher). She moved to Lorain in 1939.
Bernie was a loving and generous mother and homemaker. She was a devout Catholic. She served as president of the St. Teresa Altar and Rosary Society, and then was the first president of The Ladies Guild of the newly opened St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Sheffield Lake. Bernie was appointed as a Eucharistic Minister of the church. She gave communion to the sick and the shut-ins. She served communion to the residents of Avon Oaks Nursing Home for over 30 years.
She will be deeply missed by her children, Michael J. (Marjorie) Gallagher of Wooster and Mary L. (Gary) Bill of Lorain; 9 grandchildren and many great, great great and great great great grandchildren.
Bernie was also preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Sylvester J. Gallagher in 1981; sons, James S. Gallagher and Richard T. Gallagher; brothers, Ray, Eugene, Herbert, Thomas and Ben Eichner; sisters, Lou Boberg, Collette Kirin, Marge Wallace, Lola Gallagher and Dorothy Ammer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, May 29 at 10 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 715 Harris Road, Sheffield Lake. Rev. Father Stephen L. Shields, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Theresa Church Cemetery, Sheffield.
Memorial contributions may be made to St Thomas Church, Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44110 and Avon Oaks Activity Fund, 37800 French Creek Road, Avon, Ohio 44011.

We are so sorry to hear of Bernie passing. She was a wonderful leader and role model at our church. We had a great deal of admiration and respect for her. She will be missed. Our condolences and prayers for her family.
