Bernard Michael Larman, 85, of Overland Park, KS, passed away peacefully August 1, 2004, at St. Joseph Health Center in the presence of his loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 7, 2004, at Holy Cross Church, 8311 West 93rd St., Overland Park, KS. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 6-8 p.m. at Holy Cross Church where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Bernard was born on April 29, 1919 in Gilliam, MO, to Bernard and Anna Roach Larman. He grew up on their family farm and lived there until he joined the U.S. Army in 1940. He served five years and was a Technical Sergeant during WWII. He was awarded several decorations, including the Bronze Star. After the war, he came to Kansas City where he met Josephine Keane. They were members of the Adult Social Club. They were married October 11, 1952 at St. James Church and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2002. After the war, Bernard worked for Pontiac and was later employed by TWA as a mechanic retiring in 1984. He was a member of the International Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union Local 1650. During his years at TWA he enjoyed many beautiful trips with his family. Bernard loved music and was very talented playing several instruments by ear. During previous years, he had been a member of St. Therese Little Flower Parish where he served as an usher, was a member of the Holy Name Society, the Men's Club, bowling league, the League of 1,000 Men and coordinator of the Offertory processions at the 6:00 and 7:15 Masses. Later while residing in St. Elizabeth Parish, he served as an usher. He had been a member of Holy Cross Church for the past 20 years where he was a member of the Sunshine Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Katherine Castrop, Marie Swartze and Margaret Larman; brothers, Henry, William and Francis Larman. He is survived by his wife, Josephine; daughters, Maureen Larman and Mary Barrick; sons, Bernard Larman and wife, Dianna, Stephen Larman and wife, Rachel; grandchildren, Jamie, Safire, Alex, Jake, Lauren and Quinn. Survivors also include his brother, John Larman; sisters-in-law, Eileen Keane, Cecelia Brull and husband, Gabe, Marjorie Doyle; and many nieces and nephews. Bernard was a humble, hard working, honest devoted family man with great faith in God. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was known for his quick sense of humor, his love of music and his gentle loving and considerate ways. He was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Holy Cross Church Memorial Fund or the DCI (Dialysis Center, Inc.) at 650 Carondelet Dr., Kansas City, MO 64114.
