I worked as a teacher with Bernie at Wagner for almost 20 years. A big portion of the teachers would always sit together in his classroom at lunch. Even though there were several classes to collect in; day after day, we were always all drawn to Bernie's room for conversation. We all enjoyed his wit, his humbleness, and his insight on issues, whether they were public issues or the many issues that plagued us all teaching for the DOC. Many, many laughs would be shared in his classroom and I...

Arlene,
Very sorry to read of your husband's passing. We met in the water in Barbados during our cruise on the Explorer last January and low and behold we both lived in Bordentown and knew many of the same people. What a small world. We enjoyed talking with you and Bernie and had hoped we would see you again on another cruise. Please accept our sincere condolences.

He was my friend, mentor, confidant, partner, and a ray of sunshine in a very dismal environment. I miss him dearly, and have been messed up since I found out, I wish I would have known where and when to go. Bernie lived for his family and told me stories of his grand children everyday, he was a sweet and lovable guy, my thoughts and...

I worked With Berny from 1996 to 1999 at Albert C. Wagner Correctional Facility. We became good friends and I always enjoyed talking to him every morning when I arrived at the school. It was either he or I who opened the "school". We were always the teachers who arrived well before school began. What a loss it must be for his family. He was a wonderful man. I am now retired and living in Wyoming but often think of my days at Wagner which I truly enjoyed.
