It was an honor to work with Dr Kahn for more than the half life of Cs-137 ... 30 years, as we watched global fallout gradually decay away. And it was a very good life for everyone in the lab, except maybe the grad students working on their thesis. After a few revisions with lots of red ink, those students truly earned their degrees. Condolences to the family. My hat´s off to the fine person Dr Kahn was in so many ways.

Dr. Kahn was my advisor in Graduate School, and I was his Research Assistant for two memorable years. He patiently taught me finer points of environmental radiochemistry, lab QC, error propagation, and didn't even get (visibly) angry when I accidentally spilled a mixed-europium standard in his ultra-low-level counting room. He was truly kind, a genius, and a key mentor in my professional life. My deepest condolences.

I am sorry to hear about Bernd's passing. I learned a great deal about environmental health physics from his work. I enjoyed greatly the time we spent together during his years as an advisor on PPL's Environmental Review Committee (1980s-90s). My condolences to his family.
