I will always be indebted to Berni for inviting me to help edit and contribute to a book published by Academic Press on multiple timescale methods in plasma physics. I enjoyed all my interactions with Berni and always found him to be insightful, wise, and kind. He made many extraordinary contributions to Lawrence Livermore Laboratory and to international science.
