MATTEI, BERNICE THIENEMAN, 85, of Louisville, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2011.
She was preceded in death by her husband, L. Dominic Mattei Sr.
Bernice and Dominic owned and operated businesses in the Louisville area including restaurants Trattoria Mattei and Bico Mattei; G.C.J. Mattei Company, a supplier of church festival games and prizes, and Mattei Advertising and Display Company, a plaster statuary manufacturing business.
In addition to her husband, Bernice was preceded in death by brothers John, Joe, Earl and Eddie Thieneman; brothers-in-law, Jack Mattei, Rick Eckhart and William Waters; and sisters-in-law, Dottie and Virginia Thieneman.
She is survived by children, Louis Mattei Jr, Nancy Mattei (Neil MacGaffey), Mary Sue Doran (Mike), Gina Mattei (Eric Spore), David Mattei (Connie) and Steven Mattei (Julia); grandchildren, Pamela Mattei, John and Sara MacGaffey, Jennifer Doran Duffield (Stephen), Michael Doran (Stephanie), Susanna Doran, Garrett and Gunther Spore, Stephanie, Maria, and Anna Mattei, and Michael, Jack, Megan, and Joey Mattei; and great-grandchild Caroline Doran; brother, Paul Thieneman (Jean); sisters, Sr. Rosalin Thieneman OSU, Marita Eckhart, and Therese Stuber (Clarence); and sisters-in-law, Margaret and Mary Jo Thieneman, Babe Waters and Della Mattei (Innocente).
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at St. Margaret Mary Church, 7813 Shelbyville Road. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday, January 24, 2011 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. Entombment will be at Resthaven Memorial Park, 4400 Bardstown Road.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your mother. Though I haven't seen her for years, I remember her warmth and wonderful meals - both at home and in the restaurant! I'm sure your family gave her great comfort in her final days. I wish peace to all of you in this sad time.
