Not sure what to say?

September 10, 2001

She always signed cards “Grandpa and Bernice”. We knew we weren’t related by blood but that was never really important. We never thought of her as our Grandma, she was too young. We loved her and felt loved by her just the same. She belonged to us and we belonged to her no matter what the connection. We were family.

I have never heard anybody say an unkind word about her and if they did, I am glad I didn’t hear it because I wouldn’t have...

I enjoyed Grandma Tilton's gregariousness and graciousness. Although we didn't see her often, we always had fun when were able to get together. I also remember one special occasion when she took time on her vacation to visit when I was away at college in Santa Barbara, CA. She had a great laugh, and she always left you smiling.

In loving memory: Greg and Eva Clark, Michelle Sweaney, and Sondra Clark.

My mother, Bernice Tilton, was uniquely her own person. Her life was a total success, because she put her best into each situation and left each situation better than she found it. Her heart was always in the right place. She was was full of love and warm with compassion. We miss her so much already.

Aunt Bernice is one of my all time favorite people. Mickleberry's Restaurant on 95th St was another favorite meeting place in the early years. With their contagious joviality, interest in people, fondness for the Chicago area and for travel, and their wonderful sense of humor, the liveliness of these gatherings...

Although it has been many years since I last visited Homewood, I am grateful that I was able to see Grandma and Grandpa Tilton together one last time at his 80th birthday celebration, and that they were able to meet Conny. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the family.

Bernice was a Super Great Stepmom to me and my late sister Eloise and a loving mother of my two step-sisters Joanie and Janet. We will very much miss her presence but will remember her many deeds and caring that have inspired us all.
