Mr. Bernice E. Tyson


       Mr. Bernice Earl Tyson, age 80 a resident of U.S. Highway 17 North, Washington, died Friday, December 18, 2020 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.


      The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM from 2:00 PM Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM Sunday in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory, conducted by Pastor Travis Boyd.  Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens, Washington.


      The following will serve as pallbearers:  Troy Tyson, Redden Woolard, Daniel Rouse, Dennis Smith, Will Smith and Drew Smith.


       Mr. Tyson was born in Pitt County on January 20, 1940.  He was the son of the Joe Tyson and Bessie Adams Tyson.  Mr. Tyson retired as a supervisor at national Spinning with over 40 years of service.  He was a member of the Old Ford Church of Christ.  In his spare time, Mr. Tyson enjoyed working on cars, NASCAR, drag racing and watching Westerns on T.V.


      Mr. Tyson was married to the former Sheila Florence Hodges, who preceded him in death, December 3, 2009.


      He is survived by two sons, A.J. Tyson of the home, Jason Tyson and wife Debbie of New Bern; three grandchildren, Austin Tyson, Lawson Tyson, Cody Webb and brother, Jesse Tyson of Washington.


     In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Tyson was preceded in death by a son, Wade Tyson; two brothers, Jimmy Tyson and Junior Tyson and sister, Ann Tyson Woolard.
