Berta Wilhelmina (Bauer) Cadorette, 95, of Groton passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday June 10, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Sherwood Cadorette and loving mother of their four children.
Berta was born July 17, 1929, in Munich, Germany, to Heinrich and Wilhelmina (Oberfrank) Bauer. She grew up in the Munich borough of Untermenzing in Bavaria, Germany. As a young woman, Berta was employed as a court reporter in Munich.
Berta met her future husband, Sherwood, when he left the U.S. to study at the Staatliche Musik Hochschule in Munich. Berta married Sherwood Cadorette, in Munich, Germany, on February 28, 1955. In 1957, along with her husband and infant son, Berta immigrated to the U.S. and became a citizen.
Having great pride in her Bavarian roots, Berta raised her children in a multicultural household passing the traditions, stories and songs of her native country on to them. Her teachings were always interesting and created a feeling of identity and belonging for her kids. Having a giving nature, Berta was always ready to volunteer her time and talents to help the community. As a long time member of the Groton Congregational Church, she volunteered and participated in many church groups and activities. As an avid knitter, Berta especially enjoyed knitting and donating sweaters to those in need as part of an annual church event.
Berta was also a member of the German Cultural Society. She volunteered many hours to cook traditional meals for the group’s functions and meetings. Berta was an amazing cook. Her family loved everything she made, especially the Bavarian dishes and the cinnamon plum cake that she made every September.
In addition to volunteering, knitting and cooking, Berta enjoyed exercising, playing piano, classical music, singing and making people laugh. She had a great sense of humor and an easy-going, positive personality. She was just fun to be around.
Berta’s ability to not take herself too seriously and not sweat the small stuff made her resilient and strong. Her calming, generous nature made her a wonderful mother. She never complained about anything. She always made her children feel safe, important, supported and unconditionally loved. Berta was truly the heart and soul of her family. We are forever grateful for having had her as our mother . Thank you Mom. We love you.
In addition to her husband Sherwood, Berta was predeceased by her parents, her brother Heinz Bauer, her sister Franzi Köhnlein, her sister Erika Hermann and her brother Klaus Bauer.
Berta is survived by her son Claus Cadorette and his wife Deniz of Istanbul, Turkey, her daughter Monika Cadorette, her son Heinz Cadorette, and her daughter Margo Cadorette all of Groton.

Berta and Sherwood's house was like a second home for me when I was growing up in Groton and playing sports with their sons Heinz and Claus. I'm glad to see that she lived a long life. My condolences to the family.
