Mother Bertie M. Marble was born in Muskegon, Michigan on September 24, 1946 to the parents of Willie Gray and Christiana Butler. Her mother, Christiana later married Elisha Alexander where he lovingly embraced Bertie as his own daughter. Bertie in return had a lasting, heartfelt affection for Elisha and called him ?Daddy?. She and her Mother carried a continual, deep love and loyal relationship to each other. Christiana?s residence in Muskegon in no way interfered with the two of them talking on the phone; two or three times per day. Bertie departed this earthly life on Friday, March 20, 2015 at McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint, MI. She received Christ at an early age and was a dedicated, ongoing member of the WEST SIDE C.O.G.I.C. in Muskegon Heights, along with her parents and grandparents, Isaac and Mother, Rosie B. Butler. Throughout her childhood, she attended the Muskegon and Whitehall Public School Systems where she graduated from Muskegon High School. By 1963 Bertie had met Roy Marble, Sr; he was smitten and they became the love of each other lives. On June 24, 1964, they became as one and were joined in holy matrimony. Bertie firmly believed in the institution and the covenant vow of marriage and devotedly accepted the role of being the help meet to her husband until her passing. By 1966, Roy and Bertie moved from Muskegon to Flint to provide and offer better living conditions for their family at a time when General Motors was flourishing with employment and well paid job opportunities. From this union, they received from God the blessings of life through their four children; Theresa, Roy Jr. ?Bug?, LaShema and Jeron Marble. Bertie also was employed by General Motors before retiring in 1989.
After moving to Flint, Bertie became a member of the GREATER HOLY TEMPLE C.O.G.I.C. where she faithfully served as President over the Greeter?s, a member of the Pastor?s Aide, the Hospitality Team and the Mother?s Board before her health began to decline. Bertie?s zeal for being a conscientious homemaker was always in place until her sickness. She joyfully kept a welcoming, open door kitchen to her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. She had an endearing way of making her nieces and nephews feel how special they were to her. Her heart was also open to listen and give Godly advice and wisdom to those she came in contact with. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and the joy it brought especially to celebrate with family gatherings. She believed in the spirit of giving as God gave to everyone of us; ?His Only Begotten Son? as His Word declares in John 3:16 and she never wanted anyone to be without receiving a gift during this special season. Bertie had the most unselfish, unconditional love and compassion for her husband, children and others. She strived so humbly and would recoil from offending anyone or hurting anyone?s feelings. She would accept the challenge to swallow her own pride and remain silent in order to keep peace. She was the bonding glue in keeping family together. Bertie?s loving act of kindness and thoughtfulness certainly will be sorely missed! However, to those who would accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior, and commit their lives wholly unto Him, you will see Bertie again!
Bertie leaves to cherish her loving, compassionate memories to her beloved husband, Roy Marble, Sr.; daughter, Theresa Marble, son, Roy Marble, Jr., daughter, LaShema Marble all of Grand Blanc/Flint area and son, Jeron (Sarita) Marble of Dimondale, MI; three brothers, LaVern Alexander of North Carolina, Ronald and Randell (Georgia) Alexander of Muskegon, MI; eleven grandchildren, Roy Devyn Marble of Orlando, FL, Merrick Marble of Texas, Royannah Marble of Iowa City, IA, Roichelle Marble of Madison, WI, Jeron Marble, Jr., of Orlando, FL, Carlos Marble of Des Moines, IA, BeYonce Solomon of Grand Blanc, MI, Phoenix Marble of Dimondale, MI, Diamond Marble of Grand Blanc, MI, Troy Marble and Joshua Marble of Flint, MI; five brothers-in-law, Lee Marble of Washington DC, Frank and Thomas Marble of Flint, Sam (Rosie) Marble, Larry (Shawanda) Marble of Muskegon, MI; five sisters-in-law, Mary E. My thoughts and prayers are with the Marble family. I am so sorry for your loss. I have been reflecting on my memories of "Bertie". She was always kind and welcoming. I appreciated her being the first person, outside of my family, to let me arch her eyebrows. She encouraged me.
