Bertie Powell

POWELL, Bertie Whitby, age 88, of Lawrenceville, Va., passed away June 2, 2011. She was the daughter of the late Charles P. and Jennie W. Whitby. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Davy Powell; her great- grandson, Charles Wesley Thomas; two brothers and five sisters. She is survived by her son, Dennis E. Powell and special friend, Sallie McGee, thought of like a daughter-in-law, of Richmond; her daughter, Peggy P. Jones and husband, James, of Lawrenceville; her granddaughter, Tabitha L. Thomas and husband, Timothy, of South Hill; two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Emily Thomas; four brothers, Arthur Whitby, of Baskerville, Willie, Kenneth and Emory Whitby; and her sister, Louise Clary, all of Lawrenceville. And a special "Thank You" to her caregiver, April Easter, and her family. The family will receive friends Sunday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home, Lawrenceville. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Williams Funeral Home. Interment in Matthews Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Lawrenceville.
