Not sure what to say?

I have great memories of Frau Werny as my German Teacher in my senior year at Lakes HS. I had only the one year at Lakes, as dad was in the Army and we had actually been in Germany a few years before. She was an effective teacher; though I didn't pursue more formal German language education, what I retained got me through a pleasure trip to Berlin in 2015. I think she was adored by her students - she was funny, thoughtful, spiritual and empathetic, and I'll always remember her fondly.

I first met Bertl when I began my teaching career at Lakes High School in 1966. We became good friends and had many adventures together. Bertl was a vital force in my life and served as a great role model and mentor. She was a strong, optimistic, courageous and "bigger than life" kind of person who embraced LIFE and its challenges. I will never forget her and extend my deepest sympathy to her family, especially Isa who has been a friend for almost 40 years.

I was visiting my parents in Lakewood last week and my Dad shared the sad news about the death of one of my most inspirational teacher from Lakes High who I knew as Frau Werny. I too still have her book of German songs, my textbooks, and most importantly my memories of two years while she taught me much more than German. She was a remarkable woman full of enthusiasm, creativity, strong opinions and boldness. She brought out the best in people. I will never forget her.

Bertl was my German teacher at Lakes high school. She introduced me to folk dancing and I was one of her 'Lancer Dancers'. Bertl was a true free spirit who lived life to the fullest and I am thankful she was a part of my life. Her spirit lives on in me. My sincere condolences to her family. Lakes Class of 1972.

For the past some thirtysix years I had the pleasure to have had the pleasure to be able to folkdance with her on Tuesday evening in Olympia with the Olympia Folkdancers. Going to a few Lakewood Folkdance lessons/Parties that she sponcered. I was also fortunate to have been able to assist her with ther Lutheran Nursing Home Geriatics therapeutic Folkdancing.

Bernd and family We are so sorry to hear of your loss. At a time like this all we can do is remember the happy times and share. Thinking of you with our prayers. Dale and Gail

I accidently came across Bertl's obit while searching for another. I remember her well throughout High School and to this day I still have a book of German songs she handed out to her class (I had her for German and so did my brother). She was quite the character and I will never forget her. My condolences to her family. Karen Walker - Lakes High school class of 78.

Bertl had a great influence in my life. Her strength and independence
inspired me. She expected the best from herself and others. I will remember her with love forever.
