Bertrand "Berto" Edwards Hurlbut, IV, 64, of Johnson City, Texas, passed away, June 27, 2023. Berto faught a battle with health issues but was able to pass peacefully, surrounded by family.
Born, January 8th, 1959 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Bertrand “Bert” Edwards Hurlbut III and Patricia “Patsy” Hurlbut, was the first of 8 children. Berto was preceded in death by his father, Bert Hurlbut, maternal grandparents, Reuben and Alma Gloor, as well as his paternal grandparents, S. Finley Sr. and Leta W. Hurlbut. He also mourned the loss of his cousin, Lauren “Laurie” Claire Hurlbut, and his brothers, Douglas Blaine and Michael Brandon Hurlbut.
Berto is survived by his loving daughters, Savannah Marie Hurlbut, Brianna Lynn Hurlbut, and cherished granddaughter, Olivia Elizabeth. Berto is also survived by his mother Patsy Hurlbut, brothers Bradley and Baxter, sisters Bridgitte, Brittany and Brooke, their spouses and children, Uncle and Aunt James and Marsha Hurlbut and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family members.
Known for his remarkable storytelling, artistic ability, and vivid imagination, Berto was a beloved big brother. He possessed a loving and caring heart, which touched the lives of those around him. Berto had a nomadic spirit and embraced new adventures throughout Mexico, Central America, various states and many other countries. He had a special fondness for Mexico and central America and the spirit of those places and people. He was a self-taught Spanish speaker and utilized his language skills in most of the occupations and adventures that he had during his life.
Berto was truly a one of a kind person, he will be missed by his friends and family and remembered well for his special character and love for people and adventures. Te amamos Berto y te extrañaremos mucho.
Graveside services officiated by Pastor Jim Boatright will be held at 9:00 AM Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Phillips Cemetery in Dripping Springs, TX. Pallbearers are: Brad Hurlbut, Baxter Hurlbut, Wally Herrera, Tim Pennell, Cage Hurlbut, Eden Pennell, and Ryan Sutter.
The family asks in lieu of flowers a donation to the Community Resource Center, CRC in Johnson City, Texas would be well used and appreciated.
