Beryl Greco Obituary

Beryl Bagert Greco, born on September 12, 1943, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2021 with her husband of 57 years, Claude Alvin Greco, at her side. Daughter of the late Elsie Simoneaux Bagert and Vernile William Bagert, she is survived by her five children Gina Greco (Gaetano DeLeonibus), Stephen Greco (Judith), Marc Greco (Vicky), Aimée Schafer (Brian), and Matthew Greco (Jennifer). Beryl, Bella to her family, was lovingly involved in the lives of her thirteen grandchildren, Sophia and Elena DeLeonibus; Gabrielle, Claudia, Sydney, and Clement Greco; Lily, Emmy, and Ben Greco; Marlena and Eve Schafer; and Luke and Lane Greco. She and Claude traveled to Oregon, Virginia, and Texas, or stayed in Metairie, to be present for their grandchildren's births, and participate in their baptisms, first communions, graduations, Christmas celebrations, grandparent days, and sporting events. Beryl affectionately looked forward to holidays and family gatherings back home in New Orleans with her late brother Vernile B. Bagert (Shirley), late brother Donald Bagert (Betty), and twin brother Barry Bagert (Gerry Pat) and their combined thirteen children. Beryl enjoyed celebrating her native culture while cooking her mother's Cajun recipes and dancing the two-step at local live concerts year after year. She and Claude adored traveling abroad to Italy and Croatia and especially Lourdes, France, where she traced her family lineage. Her loyalty to her alma mater Dominican High School (Class of '61) and to her children's alma maters St. Angela Merici, Academy of the Sacred Heart, and Jesuit High School proved strong while volunteering and making lifelong friendships with school families. Her Catholic faith strengthened as an active member of St. Angela Merici Parish for 50 years, including roles as retreat director and teacher in the Sunday children's program. After graduating from the University of New Orleans, Beryl's early career proved her loyalty to her community as a high school science teacher. Beryl continued her education, graduating with a Master's degree in counseling from the University of New Orleans; her subsequent career went on to include individual and family counseling, as well as serving as regional director of Au Pair in America. Beryl was committed to her health and kept active over the decades via basketball, tennis, walking, yoga, and healthy cooking. Beryl will be remembered for her Joie de Vivre as well as her love of family, her sisterhood of friends, and her relationship with the Lord. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation to be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021 from 12 noon to 2 pm followed by the Funeral Mass at 2 pm in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, Masses are preferred. To sign and view the family guestbook, please visit www.lakelawnmetairie.com.
