Not sure what to say?

It was 1945, and when WWII ended, thousands of G.I.s returned to their communities to build marriages, families and making their home town a better place to live. The Haners, Burns, Botsfords, Fullers, Jarvis', Maslins and alike joined the Ann Arbor Jaycees and hit the road running with community projects and made life-long friends to boot. They held a Jaycee reunion in the 1980s at German Park. Gene and Bethel joined in the comraderie. (see photo) God Bless You!

Dear Mr. Haner,
My brother, Peter Shima, sent me Mrs. Haner's obituary today. I am very sorry to hear of her passing. I have fond memories of my parents (George and Mary Shima) sharing news of your family with us. It is through them that I know you. I recall them telling us of the four of you playing golf, probably before we kids came along. I remember visiting your home and the Early American furniture you had remains a strong image in my memory. I remember get togethers with the families...

I am saddened to hear of Bethel's sudden passing. She was a dear dear friend to our family and I remember many fun Jaycee picnics growing up. I always loved going to the Haner home on Hellner Rd., probably one of the loveliest homes I can remember! I know my mom will miss her dearly. Cynthia (Roberts) Oddy

To the Haners.. Very sad when I learned of Bethel's passing. She was surely one special woman!! She had endless patience with me on the golf course. For all my kid's life, they loved, enjoyed and respected her as she was that kind of woman. We had super good times together back in the good ol' days!! I cherish those memories! ... I learned a great deal from Bethel--am so happy she was in my life!

It is with great sadness that I think of Bethel's passing but also a smile for her beautiful personality and loving spirit. Hellner Road neighbor, you will be missed. All our love to the Haner Family.
