Betsy Evans Griffith, age 82, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ August 23, 2021, after a long battle with dementia. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.

Born on March 29, 1939, Betsy was a lifelong resident of Fox Hill in Hampton. She was a member of Fox Hill Central United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years.

Betsy worked for the Commissioner of Revenue in Hampton and retired in 2010. She was kind to everyone and never met a stranger. Betsy enjoyed gardening and cooking. Her red velvet cake was a family favorite. She was most proud of her family and loved caring for them. Betsy was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, and friend and will be greatly missed.

Betsy was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin of 54 years; her parents, Johnson and Katherine Evans; and her granddaughter, Caroline Griffith. She is survived by her three children, Mark Griffith (Lisette), Michael Griffith, and Susan Goetz (Kevin); two grandsons, Steven Griffith (Ellen) and Carter Goetz; four granddaughters, Jillian Dalton (Travis), Katherine Coltrain (James), Riley Goetz and Avery Goetz; two great granddaughters, Maggie Griffith and Ruby Dalton; her sister, Jean Raines; her brother, Jake Evans; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Pat Quinn and Butch Kilmon for their loyalty and dedicated friendship to Betsy during her illness. Mark and Susan would like to express their deepest gratitude to their brother Michael who lived with and cared for their mother for nine years. It was because of Michael's devotion to their mother that she was able to remain at home throughout her long illness.

The family will receive friends at Fox Hill Central United Methodist Church on Friday, August 27, 2021 from 1-2PM. A funeral service will follow at 2PM with interment in Parklawn Memorial Park afterwards.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the church or to the Alzheimer's Foundation.

Arrangements are by R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home

Not sure what to say?

Thanks for the years of friendship. Tell Marvin hello.

To Betsy's Family: I had the pleasure of working with Betsy at the Commissioner's office. She is one of the sweetest, most kind people I have ever met. It was my pleasure to know her - your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

We are so sorry for your loss and still keep your family in our thoughts and prayers. Betsy is at peace and can now rejoin Marvin and Caroline and continue to watch over the family and smile. ❤

So sorry to hear about your loss. You know that God and Jesus are in the best position to comfort us when we lose a loved one in death.

Betsy had been a long time customer at our Hallmark in Willow Oaks. Missed visiting with her after we closed. So sorry for your loss of her. She truly was a sweetheart.

I was blessed to know Betsy my entire life. She had a kind and sweet soul and she will be terribly missed. We will continue to keep the family in our thoughts and prayers through this time of sorrow and healing.

This lovely lady was a blessing to all who knew her. Prayers for the family for strength and peace on her passing.

You are with our beloved Lord.
