                                                            November 29, 1952 – October 13, 2022


Bettie Cade Brown was born November 29, 1952, in Selma, Alabama to the late William and Maggie Cade. After her parents’ death in 1954, Bettie and her oldest brother, William (Billy) moved to Mobile with her father’s oldest brother and his wife, Richard and Alma Cade, Sr. In 1966, Bettie and her brother moved with her father’s youngest brother and his wife, Lynn and Erma Cade.


Bettie was educated in the Mobile County Public School system and graduated from Lillie B. Williamson High School in 1970. She continued her education in pursuit of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama with studies at Springhill College in Mobile, Alabama ultimately receiving two master’s degrees. She became an educator with the Mobile County Public School System where she retired in 2005. Bettie had a passion for teaching; she encouraged her students to “Believe in Themselves” by building their confidence and self-esteem, to be able to go to college or trade school to meet any challenge in life.  Mrs. Brown taught at the following schools: Craighead Elementary, Nan Gray Davis Elementary, and Old Shell Road Magnet School. She became an Assistant Principal at Dunbar Magnet School from 2001 – 2005 until her retirement after over 27 years of service.


Bettie Cade Brown was a faithful former member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal church under Reverend P.H Lewis, Sr. Bettie joined Stewart Memorial Christian Methodist Episcopal Church under Reverend Bernard Johnson where she also served as a faithful member of the Stewart Board, God’s Golden Gems Senior Ministry, Missionary Society, and as a volunteer with Vacation Bible School.


Bettie is preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband, James “Black” Brown, her brothers, William James Cade and Maurice Jackson, her uncle and aunt, Richard and Alma Cade and her Uncle Lynn and Aunt Erma Cade.


Bettie’s beautiful smile, bubbling personality and love for people will be cherished and remembered by her loving family, her devoted son and daughter -in-law, Eric and Glenda Crenshaw; her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Jada and Jimmy Cooper; her adoring grandchildren , Braxton J. Woody, Ateal (Jeremy) Woods, Erykah Crenshaw, Ashton A. Cooper, and Chanse C. Cooper; her sister and brother-in-law, Ernestine (David) Cade- Hill and Claude Cannon; devoted cousins, Amelia Cade Bacon, Alma Cade Coles, Cynthia Cade, Rufus and Kathy Smith, Tommy & Kay Smith, Richard Cade, Jr., and  Lynn B. Cade ,III.


 Devoted friends during my illness and throughout my life, Curley L. & JoAnn Bonds, Almeda Kennedy, Ella & Alvin Jones, Ollie Smoots Craig, and Barbara E. Martin; faithful friends, Diane Thomas Williams, Diane Dexter, Gloria Jean Dickerson, Mytrice Powe, Novella Bass, Marion Parker, Leo Johnson, Larry and Fanita Clark, William H. So sorry to hear of the passing of Betty. She was a good friend of the Allen family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

My condolences to the family...I will remember Betty as a very good person. RIP..

On behalf of Lamar and Esther Lott children's, Betty was a true triumph in her and sole. Our fondest memories of Betty and Billie-wee playing outside as kids in Washington Place. Love Moyne, Claudette a.ka. Sis, Portia and Lil Brotha.

Bettie n I worked as adjunct professors in the Early Childhood Éducation with Dr. Eleby. We spent many years working together at B.S.C.C. We will really miss you, Bettie. Rest in Heavenly Peace!
