Betty J. Cedars

September 12, 1931 to April 6, 2025

Betty J. Cedars, 93, of Crawfordsville, passed away on Sunday April 6, 2025 at Rosewalk of Lafayette.

Born at home, in Crawfordsville on September 12, 1931 to Lillian and David Earl Elkins. As an only child, a cousin one year older than her was more like a brother. Betty moved around a lot as a child and after her mother remarried, she gained 3 step-brothers and 3 step-sisters. By the 8th grade Betty was attending a one room school house where she had to walk 2 miles to school every day. A lot of Betty memories as a child were when she lived in Michigan and in the summer, time picking strawberries and tomatoes. Going on Sunday afternoon to the amusement arcade and watch ships coming and going on the pier.  

In 1949 Betty married Ivan Lee Cedars, he preceded her in death on July 13, 1979. Together Betty and Ivan had four children. Betty was a housewife, always around the farm helping Ivan. She loved playing cards and board games with her grandchildren, and she always knew exactly the number of grandchildren she had. Betty was affiliated with First Christian Church.

Surviving family includes; daughter, Carol Whipkey; sons, Robert “Bob” Cedars, and Thomas Cedars; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. In addition to her parents and step-father, Betty was preceded in death by her husband Ivan; and daughter Miriam Morley.

Visitation for Betty Cedars will begin at 11 AM on Friday, April 11th at Burkhart Funeral Home, service will start at 1 PM and Betty will be laid to rest at Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
