Betty Lester Cook, 88, widow of the late George Hardin Cook, Sr., passed away on March 6, 2026, at her residence in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. Born April 11, 1937, in Mercer County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late William Hollis Lester and Lucille Gabhart Lester.


Betty was a former Registered Nurse at Methodist Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, where she cared for others with compassion and dedication. She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking for her family, and singing. Betty also loved supporting her children at their sporting events and spending time playing the card game Rook with family and friends. Above all, she cherished the time she spent with her family.


Betty is survived by her children, George (Jennie) Cook, Jr. of Lexington, Kentucky, Mylinda Schooling of Louisville, Kentucky, Julia Shields of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, and Joyce L. Cook of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky; her grandchildren, Jason Schooling, Eric Schooling, Jordan Wright, Joshua Shields, Jessie Cook, and Jenna Cook; and several great-grandchildren.


Along with her husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by her siblings, Howard Lester, Carlos Lester, Kenneth Lester, Ronald Lester, and Donald Lester.


A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at the Lawrenceburg Cemetery Pavilion, with burial to follow in Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service at 1:00 P.M. at the cemetery.


Memorial contributions in memory of Betty are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
