Betty Lucille Keener Harbert, 78, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday (Jan. 14, 2009). She was born Dec. 18, 1930, in Fairmont to the late Willie and Mary Ruth Fletcher Keener.In her teenage years, Betty played the guitar and sang on local radio stations with her sister, Wanna Lee Vandergrift. Betty loved reading her Bible, praying and spending time with all of her family and friends. Betty was a Proverbs 31 wife and mother. She truly served Jesus and was faithful even to the point of death, and now has received the crown of life in Heaven with her Lord.Betty was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ and the Bible Fellowship Church in Fairmont. Betty is survived by her sons, Mark J. Harbert and his wife Karen of Fairmont, and Stephen Douglas Harbert and his wife Marsha of Fairmont; her daughters, Sharon L. Huffman and her husband Donald of Monumental, Linda E. Ice and her husband Krag of Fairmont, Penny E. Benkiel and her husband Mark of Fort Mill, S.C.; Ginger Harbert of Fairmont, and adopted in her heart daughter, Mary Ellen Hartman; her brother, Ronald Edwin (Ed) Keener and his wife Andi of Ohio; her sisters, Mary McCourt of Morgantown, Wanna Lee Vandergrift of Wishing Well Manor, Nelda Rush of Fairmont, Myrtle Sloan and her husband Charles of Fairmont, and Rosaleen Heil of Wheeling; her 11 precious grandchildren, Brent and Trish Huffman of Burlington, Ky.; Eric Huffman of Nashville, Tenn.; Lisa and Michael Dougherty of Monumental, Jennifer and Rod Michael of Fairmont, Melissa and Michael Kuhn of Fairmont, Kate and Nick Haddix of Fairmont, Hannah L. Harbert of Fairmont, Joey Harbert of Fairmont, Taylor Harbert of Fairmont, Matthew E. and Helen Harbert of Fairmont and Christin Benkiel of Raleigh, N.C.; her two beloved great-grandchildren, Ava Kuhn and Ella Haddix, both of Fairmont; and many precious nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eli J. (Steve) Harbert in 1976; a sister, Kathern Kadell Keener in infancy; three brothers, William Clifton Keener and Conley Keener, both in infancy, and Owen Eugene Keener; her brothers-in-law Denzil (Sonny) Vandergrift, Otha McCourt, Delbert Rush and Jack Heil. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. today and from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Benkiel, Betty’s son-in-law, officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Bunner Ridge.
