Betty May (Kneebone) Hooper, 95, of Pen Argyl, PA, died on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, in the Slate Belt Health and Rehabilitation Center, Bangor, PA.  She was the widow of Glenn A. S. “Chubby” Hooper.  They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in July of 1995.  She and “Chubby” became ardent campers in their later years.


Born in Pen Argyl, PA, on January 8, 1926, Betty was the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (Wynn) Kneebone.  She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pen Argyl, PA.  For many years, she was employed by A&H Sportswear in Pen Argyl.


Betty was a devoted, mother, grandmother “Nanny”, and great grandmother.   She is survived by her daughter Bonnie, wife of Fred Sauerwine of Pen Argyl, three grandchildren, Dr. Scott Sauerwine of Luzerne, PA, Beth Fox of Branford, CT, and Megan Sauerwine of Hoboken, NJ, and one great grandchild, Brenna Fox of Branford, CT, whom she called “sunshine”.  She was the mother of a son, Terry Hooper, who passed away in infancy.


Funeral services will be held, Friday, December 10, 2021, at 11 AM at the Ruggiero Funeral Home, LLC, 126 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Pen Argyl.  There will be a viewing Friday beginning at 10 AM until time of services.  Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Pen Argyl.
