Betty J. Long of Crawfordsville passed away Monday morning at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis. She was 73.
Betty loved her two boys, her little sister, her husband, and her dogs CoCo and Candy. She loved meeting new friends at her condo and talking to anyone, as she never met a stranger. She was an Elvis fan, loved visiting the bridge festivals and going to her sister’s house near Shipshewana. She also enjoyed doing crafts, playing dominoes, solving puzzles, and enjoyed creating diamond art. Most of all, she loved her family.
Born Dec. 5, 1949 in Crawfordsville, she was the daughter of Armon and Martha Van Meter. She attended Crawfordsville schools. She worked 19 years at the Wal-Mart Optical Center, retiring from there. She married Terry Long on Sept 2, 2000. He survives.
Surviving family includes: husband, Terry Long; two sons, Phillip Grater (Chrystal) and Anthony “Tony” Grater (Dennise); grandson, Zachary Grater; granddaughter, Kayla Grater; two great-grandsons, Jeremiah Grater, William Grater; great-granddaughter Makaley Grater; two sisters, Vicky Lawson (Mike) and Judith Rogers; one step-daughter, Christina Ungersma; step-granddaughter, Makayla Ungersma; step-grandson, Christopher Kinkead.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, second husband, Jerry Crowder and sister, Shirley Stout.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 PM Friday at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 West Wabash Avenue. Services will begin at 3 PM. After the service, she will be laid to rest at the Oak Hill Cemetery on Grant Avenue.
