Betty Nething-Clegg Obituary

BETTY NETHING-CLEGG Betty K. (Schmidt) Nething-Clegg, 78, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Avita Health System-Ontario. She was born October 3, 1946, one of two children, to the late Wilbert R. and Dorothy G. (Lohr) Schmidt in New Matamoras, Ohio. Betty grew up on the Ohio River. She graduated from River High School in Hannibal, Ohio. Betty married her husband, Earl, in 1972, and they settled in Mansfield. She worked for the Ontario School System, mainly at the middle school, as a cook in the cafeteria and retired after 30 years. Betty was well loved by the students. She loved cooking, baking, canning, reading, garage sales, and going to the hay and flower auctions, but most of all she loved spending time gathering with family and friends. Betty was a character, and she loved everybody. She was a caring, kind, generous, outgoing person who never met a stranger. "Granny", as she was called by her adoring grandchildren, was very supportive of them. She never missed a sporting event. She was a cheerful and caring person whose compassionate nature will live on through her family. Betty was extremely family oriented and will be missed by those who loved her. Betty is survived by her husband, Earl Clegg; children, Scott A. (Kim) Nething of Mansfield, Ohio, Stacey R. (Brad) Weber of London, Ohio, and Trisha A. Rhodebeck (Shane Leach) of Ontario, Ohio; brother Charles "Chuck" R. (Linda) Schmidt of Proctorville, Ohio; grandchildren, Allison M. Nething, Mackenzie K. (Noah) Hall, Amanda N. Nething (Robert Milner), Logan W. E. Rhodebeck, Brianna "Bree" R. Weber; great-grandchildren, Austin J. M. Castelvetere and Brynnlee R. Milner; cousin, Roxie (John) Baker; her dog, Bella Rose; and her four legged grandson, Phoenix. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbert and Dorothy Schmidt; son, Jon "Jon Boy" M. Nething; her first husband Robert Keith Nething; and her chocolate lab, Hershey. In honor of Betty's wishes no services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scouts of Ontario or any local animal shelter. Wappner Funeral Directors-Ontario is honored to serve the Clegg family.
