I met Betty only a few years ago on my frequent walks up to Scouters Mountain past her home. We waved to each other and one day she called me over and said she had seen me so often and wondered how old I was out hiking all the time. When I told her I was in my 70's she laughed and said, "Oh, just a kid!" She then told me she was 101! I couldn't believe it! She was out there driving around on her cart, surveying the vineyard, weeding in her yard, and was so bright and funny. She told me her...

Betty and my mother were childhood best friends in the old neighborhood. Mom always spoke so highly of her and the adventurous life she shared with Bill. Many years later I cherished getting to know her through a few brief visits and she even walked through her old photo albums with me and my daughters.
