Betty Bravard Pons

Mrs. Betty Bravard Pons, 82, of Valdese passed away on Tuesday September 10, 2013 at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Valdese, after a period of declining health. Mrs. Pons was born December 17, 1930 in Burke County, a daughter of the late Ben and Bonnie Griffin Bravard. She was retired after 40 years of service from Valdese General Hospital. Betty was an active member of Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church, serving as a member of the choir and as a soloist for all occasions. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Bravard Humphries. Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Leon Albert Pons of the home, a son David Pons and wife Penny of Murrells Inlet, SC, a daughter Susan Pons-Wright and Mark Childers of Valdese and a brother, Richard Bravard and wife Mary of Rutherford College. Also surviving are her nephew, Justin Young and Lynn Miller of Murrells Inlet, SC, nieces, Nancy Young and Husband Gene of Murrells Inlet, SC, Hillary Webb and son, Holden of Morganton and her beloved pets, Dee Dee and Pepper. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday September 14, 2013 at Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Sarah Underwood and Gene Young officiating.
