Betty Bone Schiess died peacefully, with her husband of 70 years at her side. Betty was a remarkable woman: mother, scholar, activist, humanitarian, artist, and writer. Her curiosity about life, politics, and culture never wavered. One can picture her now cradling her MacBook on her lap...

Not sure what to say?

So glad to remember Betty Schiess! My Kentucky family knew her well and so appreciated her. My love to her family, I'll always miss her.

I think of Betty...my connection to her is strong although we did not spend a lot of time together. I so appreciate her spunk and spirit and I miss her. Love to her family and please know we'd love you to visit if you are ever in our neck of the woods! à bientôt with love, Mary Mayshark-Stavely

Betty Bone Schiess, my wife's cousin, lives on in my memory as one of the great women of her generation. When I departed my monastic life to marry her cousin Alice she was there to support us and give us encouragement. She was bold, outspoken and always ready to stand for social justice. We shared our interests in art and spirituality....she was a shining star for so many others...

To Bill and the rest of Betty's Family,

I first met Betty when I joined the Central NY NOW chapter in 1967. One of my fondest memories of Betty was when NOW picked the Rochester Theological Seminary so she could take the required course work to be ordained. Although no one asked our religious affiliation, most of us on the picket line that day were fallen away Protestants, Catholics and Jews. Not an Episcopalian among us. But when asked why we were there, we all truthfully answered...

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Bill, Sally and Richard and their families. Betty was an amazing influence in my life. She will always be in my hall of fame for women of influence as an activist, humanitarian, and reformer also a wonderful mother. I know her memory will live on in everyone's life she touched.

Betty you are a shining light on our lives and we will remember you always.

Betty Schiess - One-of-a-kind; a Prophet bringing Good News to women everywhere;
Story-Teller; risk-taker: all those and more. We found much to laugh about, as well as the time to mourn. Blessed be.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.

I was sorry to learn from the TV and newspaper about Betty's passing into heaven. She used her talents to help others. Now she'll be rewarded for her endless labors of love. May she rest in peace. Betty will be very much missed.We will hold on to many happy memories.Betty will be kept in our prayers.
