Mrs. Betty McCurley Sheriff, age 83, of Toccoa, GA; passed away Sunday, December 24, 2017 at Stephens County Hospital. Born March 29, 1934 in Eastanollee, GA, she was a daughter of the late Henley Lawrence and Willie Fulbright McCurley. She was of the Baptist Faith and retired from Coats and Clark after 25 years of service. Family members include her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Rumsey and Tom of Greer, SC, Elaine Payne and Allen of Toccoa, and Jean Poole and Reid of Toccoa; sisters-in-law, Ollie Walker and Willie Mae Owen; brother-in-law, William Dewey Sheriff; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jamey Joe Walters; sisters, Mazel Moore and Brenda Cash; a brother, Harold McCurley; and sisters-in-law, Alma Stowe and Ann Bell. Funeral services will be held at eleven o'clock Thursday, December 28, 2017 from the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with Pastor Chad Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Roselane Cemetery. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers; David McCurley, David Bell, Dennis Bell, Rocky Lane, Adrian Sheriff, and Rodney Sheriff. The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 5pm – 8pm Wednesday. The family will be at their respective homes. Elaine, sorry for your loss. You and your sisters are in our prayers. You know more than most the tremendous heartache in losing a loved one. Seek comfort in knowing there is a joyous reunion in Heaven today.

Betty was, from my first memory of her, loving and kind. She always had that soft smile and kind voice that made you feel loved and wanted. So much like her mother. And sHe was very much love by her Uncle H.M. and will be missed more than she could have imagined by those who survived him - Aunt Norma, Norlydia (Eric) and Max (Sherrie). I both smiled and cried yesterday when her Christmas card today - she never forgot! She ended her life doing what she loved and near those she loved and...
