Dr. Beverly Atkins

Bevy was an incredible Teacher not only in her talents as Professor and Researcher, but in her life. She achieved highly while dealing with serious life obstacles: polio, the early death of her beloved husband, returning to work and studies after as a single parent. I was one of her students at SUNY Stony Brook, and she supported me as I struggled as a student/single parent myself. We remained in contact over the years, and she remained her generous Self. I'm sorry for the loss of your loved one. My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort.

Bevy touched my life in such a positive way during a difficult time in my life many years ago. She was a friend, mentor, the most giving person I have ever known and truly a source of strength for me. She influenced the lives of so many who were fortunate to know her.
