I´m late this this but my love for Mrs. Cleary´s books will be past down through my bloodline. She took me from a terrible childhood environment to a safe magical world via her books and I am forever grateful for her.

Ms. Cleary gave me the love of reading through her books which I discovered in the library when I was a little boy. I fell in love with Beezus, Ramona, Henry, and others. When things were so bad in my life, I was able to read stories of these wonderful characters and find some hope. I have been looking to find a way to contact this beautiful author and share this with her but, alas she passed away last year. 3rd grade. 1968. A new student, at a new school. Handed The Mouse and the Motorcycle... Went home, cried.. Told by my father to basically, suck it up and read the book—not in those exact words. With this one book, I fell in love with you Ms. Cleary. I also fell in love with reading!! Thank you forever.

Beverly Cleary was special to me. I also grew up in Portland, Or, and know many of the places she described in her books and memoirs such as the Multnomah County Library, Camp Namanu, The Hollywood Theater, and I taught at Fernwood School before it was renamed Beverly Cleary School. Her legacy will live on. May those close to her find solace and joy in memories of Beverly Cleary.
