Not sure what to say?

3rd grade. 1968. A new student, at a new school. Handed The Mouse and the Motorcycle... Went home, cried.. Told by my father to basically, suck it up and read the book—not in those exact words. With this one book, I fell in love with you Ms. Cleary. I also fell in love with reading!! Thank you forever.

Beverly Cleary was special to me. I also grew up in Portland, Or, and know many of the places she described in her books and memoirs such as the Multnomah County Library, Camp Namanu, The Hollywood Theater, and I taught at Fernwood School before it was renamed Beverly Cleary School. Her legacy will live on. May those close to her find solace and joy in memories of Beverly Cleary.

The Ramona series is a wonderful classic that so many have enjoyed. Sincere condolences to the Cleary family, may God give all of you strength and comfort to carry you through your time of need, so very sorry for your loss.

Heartfelt condolences to the Cleary family, an amazing and talented author, loved her writings. May God be with all of you as you endure this very difficult time of your loss.

My condolences go out to the Cleary family on the death of Beverly. So sorry for your loss.

Love reading Beverly Clearly books to young students. Ms. Clearly will be remembered. Please accept my sincere condolences.

How I loved her books when I was in elementary school! Every time my teacher read us one, I would ask the librarian to hold it for me when it got turned back in. Then I would get to check it out and have it all to myself for two whole weeks, to enjoy again! May Mrs. Cleary rest in peace, and I offer my condolences to her family. Thank you, Mrs. Cleary, for books children could love for their entire lives.

What joy she brought to my childhood. Beverly Cleary was one of my favorite authors as a child and ignited a passion for reading that led to many late nights under my blanket reading with a flashlight. I shared some of my favorite books with my daughter.

She may be gone but she will live on through her novels.
