Beverly Mary Armstrong Hoadley, 76, of Newport Center died on August 14, 2008 in Newport Center. She was born on January 6, 1932 in Troy, one of eight children born to Guy L. and Dorris (Percy) Armstrong. She attended Troy Elementary School through 7th grade. Her family moved to Newport where she graduated from Newport High School in 1949. She married Clayton Hoadley Jr. on March 27, 1954 and worked along with her husband for 49 years on the Hoadley Farm in Lowell and assisted him with the many offices he held in town. She formally worked for Citizens Utilities for 5 ½ years until her marriage. She was a stay-at-home mom until the children were in school. She also did substitute teaching for the North Supervisory Union and Lamoille Union Schools for 20 years. She was employed for the US Postal Service in February 1977 and retired on September 3, 1999 as a Postmaster in North Troy, VT. She was a member of Troy Congregational Church, transferred to the United Church of Newport, then to the United Church of Lowell. She served as teacher and superintendent of Sunday school in Lowell where her children attended for many years. She also served as Deaconess. She is now a member of the United Church of Christ in Newport. She was Lowell Chairman for Heart and Cancer Drives for many years and received Volunteer Service Award for Northern New England Chapter of Cystic Fibrosis, and volunteered her time for Orleans Country Triad. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilt making, and bingo after her retirement. She was blessed with 5 children. Survivors include David B. Hoadley Sr.and his fiancée Mary Jane Guillette of Lowell, Mrs. Janice McGuire and her husband Stephen of Wilder, Mrs. Donna Labbee and her companion John Mead of N. Troy, and Mrs .Nancy Cote and her husband Ronald of Newport Ctr., her grandchildren David Jr. and Anthony Hoadley, Samantha and Ryan McGuire, Lisa Sargent, Dennis Labbee, Joshua and Trey Therrien, and Brittany Cote, 9 great-grandchildren, and many step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. Her greatest joy was her children and their friends and their many visits. She was a member of the Community Circle where she enjoyed all her trips,especially to the casinos with all her friends. She is also survived by sisters Mrs. Leon (Barbara) Judd and Mrs. William (Lorene) Graham, brothers Roger, Leonard, and Bill Armstrong. She was predeceased her husband Clayton Hoadley Jr. on January 27, 2003, infant daughter Vicki Lee on July 16, 1961, her parents Guy Armstrong on September 1, 1981 and mother Dorris Percy Armstrong on March 24, 1980, Brother Gilbert on July 11, 1965 and sister Vera in September 1921. She belongs to Memphremagog Grange #424, Pomona, State and National Grange. She was a member of NAPUS (National Assoc. of Postmaster of the United States) and NARFE (National Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees). She was voted in as lister for the town of Newport in 2005 and served until 2008. Due to many other commitments, she resigned this position. She also is treasurer of Newport Center Cemetery Assoc. since 2006. Friends may call at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 4670 Darling Hill Road, Newport from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. on Friday August 15, 2008 where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday August 16, 2008 with the Rev. Joy Toll-Chandler officiating.Interment will follow in Mountainview Cemetery in Lowell.
